Cervical sprain is a syndrome that occurs due\u00a0to excessive elongation of the ligaments and neck muscles<\/strong>. It is often caused by a\u00a0severe shaking of the head<\/strong>, usually caused by traffic accidents or subsequent trauma. All of this results in an effect of hyperextension of the neck that can\u00a0cause injuries in soft parts and structures of the vertebral column<\/strong>, followed by a hyperflexion that usually does not bring consequences.<\/p>\n

After injury, cervical pain, weakness, difficult in moving the neck, lack of strength, vertigo, paresthesias and headaches are some frequent symptoms. Although it\u2019s impossible to avoid it,\u00a0we can reduce the consequences of a severe shaking<\/strong>. If we are in the car, it\u2019s important that\u00a0the headrest is placed to our height<\/strong>, that we maintain a\u00a0proper posture<\/strong>\u00a0throughout the driving and that we work our\u00a0cervical musculature<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Thanks to different techniques,\u00a0physiotherapy can help to reduce pain<\/strong>\u00a0and inflammation, restore mobility and strengthen muscles. Although the time to start treatment depends on each case,\u00a0it\u2019s recommended not to wait too long to start with\u00a0physical therapy<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0to avoid further complications and immobility.
